We first opened our doors on September 15, 2005 after working for well over 6 months updating equipment and hand-painting nearly every surface in the old Hardee's building. The original and current owners, Ken and Bambi Hay, are retired Delta Airline employees. Ken spent 30 years flying as a domestic pilot and Bambi spent her 30 years as an international flight attendant. When they are not running the cafe, they are working on KeBa Farm which is also featured on our website.
On January 1, 2018, the business changed hands to Deanna Jernigan. A long-time employee of the café, she had been running the business for the past several years, but took official ownership that January. She is a close family friend of the Hay family, and they continue to support her as she runs Deanna’s Homeplate Café. She loves her family, the beach, and rescuing animals.
